Atlanta History Center: bringing a hidden collection to a new audience
The Challenge
Atlanta History Center had just digitized a collection of historic photographs documenting American gardens and cultural landscapes through its Cherokee Garden Library, and wanted to be seen as a leading voice in horticultural history. The collection, and the gardens on AHC's own campus, weren't yet reaching the audiences they spoke to most directly.
What We Did
- As partnership lead, pitched AHC on behalf of an independent, nationally recognized garden history podcast and negotiated the partnership through to a signed deal in August 2022
- Packaged it as a year-long, multi-channel campaign: a four-part narrative series, live garden events on AHC's campus, social promotion, and blog content linking back to AHC's site
- Served as executive producer, creating the series concept and its visual direction, connecting archival images of everyday life and joy to the history of land, labor, and access
The Result
Every element of the package was delivered. The series, launched in March 2023, reached the Apple Podcasts top 10 in both Society & Culture and Home & Garden, and live garden events brought audiences onto AHC's campus, putting the collection in front of a national audience.
